Hurricane Katrina Response - Grade F
Too little, too late.
This is in reference to the response at New Orleans.
Everyone in the world knew New Orleans was 80% under water the day after the hurricane. The events which have unfolded there have been predictable. Troops should have been there from day 2. It's unforgivable that our responders waited so long to put them in.
On day 2 there should have been:
> A hundred helicopters dropping rescuers on the roofs of the homes looking for survivors
> Troops everywhere keeping order
> Food and supplies available
> Latrines available
> Trash facilities available
> Medical personal available
> Helicopters and buses from every surrounding state
> They should have put out a call for everyone who had a swamp boat to help rescue people or to provide their boats to rescue teams.
Four days later and it's still chaos. Hundreds or thousands have probably died and hundreds are injured because of incompetence at the highest level, namely President Bush and the Governor of Louisiana. He should have taken charge of this situation and made sure these things were going to happen but he didn't. He was too busy riding his horses.
People in charge have known about the problems with New Orleans being built under sea level. There are plenty of books, movies, documentaries and kids in high school who know what the dangers were if a hurricane hit this city.
They should have expected the levies to break and been ready for it. They should have expected major floods. They should have expected hundreds of thousands of refugees.
It's unforgivable that they have known for so many years and yet they chose to ignore the reality of what was going to happen to New Orleans.
It's dumb enough that they even built New Orleans under sea level, but the inadequate response to Hurricane Katrina can only be blamed on President Bush and Governor Kathleen Blanco.
We are dealing with terrorism and illegal immigration the same way. We are acting as if we didn't know the problems around the world have been building for many many years.
> Usama planned the attack on the towers for years.
> We have been under attack around the world by radical Muslims for years.
> Our country has 15 million illegal invaders and we aren't doing anything to get rid of them!
> Africa is a cesspool of terrorism and murdering Islamist thugs.
> France is paying the price for ignoring radical Islam as are many other countries.
President Bush is just joining the ranks of many leaders who ignore history and are condemed to repeat it.
We should act, not react!
God forbid we have a nuclear attack.
