"Bomb throwers on both sides"
O'Reilly, O'Reilly, this is your most ridiculous statement. Last night you stated once again that "to be fair & balanced, there are bomb throwers on both sides". That's funny since you didn't cite a single example.
The topic last night was how the left-wing media and other left wingers were whining and crying that the Catholic Church selected a real man with morals as the new Pope. They refer to the Pope as an "ultra conservative" and an "extremist".
Here is some of your transcript from the Fox News web site:
--------------------------------------
Last night, we promised you analysis of how the elite media handled the elevation of Cardinal Ratzinger to pope. Let's run it down. The New York Times did five articles, four with negative headlines, and mentioned that the new pope is conservative 18 times. In case you missed the first 17 mentions, they threw in the 18th to make sure you got the message. The Times had two opinion columns, one negative, one positive. Wall Street Journal was basically neutral-positive about the pope, but The L.A. Times, The Washington Post and The Boston Globe were all negative on the editorial page.
Cokie Roberts (search) on "Nightline" was negative. "The CBS Evening News" was very negative, calling Pope Benedict "an arch conservative, an unswerving hardliner, and a polarizing figure."
But The New York Times outdid "The CBS Evening News" in hard news coverage, calling the pope "uncompromising, bland, upsetting, divisive and an enforcer." At one point, I thought I was reading about John Gotti (search).
But the cheapest shot was taken by Times columnist Maureen Dowd (search), who wrote, "Joseph Ratzinger, a 78-year old hidebound archconservative who ran the office that used to be called the Inquisition and who once belonged to Hitler youth."
Wow. The Third Reich seizes Vatican City? Well not exactly. According to a book by Vatican reporter John Allen, membership in the Hitler youth was mandatory in Bavaria (search) where Ratzinger grew up and after he was drafted into the German army at age 16, he deserted. -- But Miss Dowd neglected to mention that. And therein lies the problem with the elite media.
It simply will not report fairly. It's far more interested in demonizing those with whom it disagrees than providing you accurate information.
Now I enjoy reading Maureen Dowd. She doesn't have to resort to dishonest tactics. She's smart enough to make her points honestly.
By the way, the inquisition ended in 1820.-- Somebody better tell Maureen.
So once again, the media pack has met at the Kool-aid stand and launched a jihad against another dreaded conservative. Did anyone mention that the new pope, I should say, is conservative?
"Talking Points" remains appalled by the steep decline in standards in American journalism. It is fine for Ms. Dowd and others to object to the new pope, but do it fairly, for God's sake.
-------------------------------
For God's sake? Interesting way to end that.
I'm waiting for the conservative bomb-throwing example. I'm sure I'll be waiting forever.
It's typical of so-called "Independents" like O'Reilly to throw the pitch "they all do it". When you ask them for a single example they just throw out a generic statement about advertising before an election. Never a real example of what they mean by "they all do it" except when it comes to affairs, which Republicans have had.
Let's look at some incidents in the recent past & see some comparisons.
> In the 2000 election, Democrats changed the laws, illegally, during the presidential election in order to try & steal the election. The US Supreme court should have thrown the Florida Supreme Court in jail for this blatant attack on our country, but no, they gave them a slap on the hand, not once, but twice.
> In the last couple of elections Democrats tried illegal things to change our elections. They registered dead people & voted for them, they registered their animals & voted for them, they voted multiple times, they flattened the tires of Republican vans who were on their way to bring people to the voting stations, they shot at 4 or more Republican offices, they kept voting stations open after the legal times, they did recounts in Democrat counties only, in TV commercials they accused Republicans and President Bush of being Nazis, they accused Republicans of wanting to bring back the days where blacks will be hung and be made slaves again, they released a false TV documentary to try & bring down President Bush...& on & on.
> Democrats support abortion up to partial birth/infanticide.
Man, I can go on & on for days. Wait, I can't stop yet, ...Trent Lott makes a statement that wasn't even close to racist at a birthday party for Strom Thurmond and the Dems have a cow, eventually forcing him to back down as majority leader, shortly after that Sen. KKK Byrd makes this comment "There are white niggers. I've seen a lot of white niggers in my time; I'm going to use that word.". All he had to do was release an apology later stating "I apologize for the characterization I used on this program. The phrase dates back to my boyhood and has no place in today's society. As for my language, I had no intention of casting aspersions on anyone of another race," according to the statement.". And he got away with it, no crys for his removal.
You interview face to face with Ellis, a man whom you say you respect, but a man who doesn't respect the Church. His comments were rude and anti-church, but you give him a pass. You constantly interview these liberal "bomb-throwers" and allow them to throw out their "bombs". Typically what we are referring to by bombs is hate speech, opinion and lies. Republicans come to the table with facts and you say we're playing the same game?
You wouldn't know a fact if it bit you. You seek to further your agenda. You accuse Dems and Reps of just wanting to further their agendas and you pretend to be better-then-them.
I challenge you to present 1% of the bomb-throwing from the right as comes from the left, politics and media, every minute of every day.

1 Comments:
Your retelling of Trent Lott's demise as majority leader is inaccurate.
Perhaps you read the Washington Post's soft-pedaling of Lott's career? Yes, thatWashington Post.
