Outspoken: President Reagan

President Reagan

In my early, socialist/communist years I was full of anti-Government and
anti-business views. I lived in the idealistic world of "we all can have
cars and boats and houses if we all build them for each other". Of course
that was assuming that everyone wanted to help, which I have learned as I
have grown up, many don't want to help. They just want the cars and boats
and houses...for free, without lifting a finger.

When President Reagan passed the tax cuts I hollered "no fair...tax cuts for
the rich!". Yep, the liberals had me brainwashed back then. One of the
liberal cartoons had a rich man portrayed on top of a cliff urinating on the
poor, referring of course to the name of the policy, trickle down.

Fortunately, over time, I realized who the rich were. They are people like
you & me. They are people that had/have an idea how to do something better,
faster or cheaper and profit from it. Why shouldn't they profit? Why
shouldn't some people make more than others? And when they do, why should
they pay more in taxes than someone who earns less? They already pay more
in taxes because they make more money, so why should they be pay an
additional tax for being successful? The wealthy folks used to pay 90% in
taxes, hardly fair by any standards.

Reagan said how it was gonna be & the Democrats had to go along with it. As
a matter of fact, I remember them saying it was better to go along with him
so that when everything failed they could blame it on him. Well, it didn't
fail. Reagan's policies helped this country grow faster and bigger than
ever before. He got caught up in a few political quagmires but he stayed
strong and resolute. It was obvious he was trying to do what he thought was
best and his strength of character came through in every speech.

Reagan made our military and our country strong and showed America what
courage and hope meant.

His love for his wife Nancy was unfailing and it was obvious they were
deeply in love and committed to each other.

The world referred to him as a "cowboy", as they do President Bush today.
It wasn't meant to be a compliment though, and back then they thought he was
going to cause the destruction of the planet. As it turned out, the
opposite happened. The Soviet Union collapsed and the cold war was over.

How much can President Reagan take credit for? He never did, he left that
to us to decide. History's paintbrush will paint him well. The liberals
are trying daily to vilify him. They started the moment he died.

The biggest lesson that we should gain from President Reagan is that we have
to stand up for what we believe in. Others will try to knock us down, and
if we waiver, they will succeed.

Republicans, Independents and Democrats all, we need to stand together and
not let the extremist liberals take over this great country of ours. After
all, America is:

"One nation, under God, Indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for All!"
